Keeping Your Kids Safe In your Vehicle
You love and cherish your children, so take the time to protect them in your vehicle. Use approved booster seats and car seats. Rear-facing seats should be used in the back seat from birth to at least 1 year old and at least 20 pounds. Forward-facing toddlers seats should be used in the back seat from age 1 and 20 pounds to about age 4 and 40 pounds. A booster seat should be used between age 4 and 40 pounds and age 8 or 4’9” in height. And, safety belts alone may be used at age 8 and older or taller than 4’9″. All children age 12 and under should ride in the back seat. If you’re not sure how to properly secure your child or your child’s seat, visit the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or the Pennsylvania State Police for more information.
